I have no idea what this first flower is called and, in fact, this is not the best colour as it is more purple than blue in real life. I just thought it was pretty and to be flowering through all the awful winter weather is amazing.
Below the first crocuses are beginning to show their faces, giving the garden a little burst of much welcome colour.

Preparing for Winter

Today I took advantage of reasonable weather. Washing the flower pots ready for winter storage seems has come around a lot earlier this year. This is normally a job for late October but all the flowers died early due to wet summer.

How does my garden grow!

I try and grow a few peppers in pots in my front porch. Every year they seem to do well except for the infestation of aphids that invade as soon as they take root. I even made up a concoction of boiling rhubarb leaves and mixing with soap flakes as a natural remedy. It was not successful. Tried a chemical hubby bought from the garden centre and still they come back. I am forever cleaning up the mess they make on the windows and the shelf. However the peppers seem to be thriving as you can see below.

The other plant that is thriving is this white geranium I was given it by a neighbour at the beginning of last winter. We potted it and hoped for the best. It seemed to survive even with no heating in the porch. It went out into one of my front urns and had really thrived, wish I had remembered to take a photo a bit earlier as it is beginning to look a little dishevelled after all the rain.

Mystery Flower!

Embee called me out to the garden last night just as it was dusk to have a look at these flowers. They were tucked under some other foliage and I hadn't noticed them. Embee cannot remember planting them~ well he did say he thought he might have planted some Snowdrops last year so we think these might be a variety of Snowdrop. I haven't had time to do any research just yet so if anyone has any ideas please let me know!

These miniature daffodils are now in full bloom having followed behind their larger relative (I can't find the name of the particular variety). You might be able to see two buds in the centre of the pot that are close to flowering. My hubby cannot remember what he planted and I can't wait to see the flower. It looks a slightly pink or purple colour, but we shall see!

Recently, I have seen so many really beautiful bird photos on several of the blogs I read regularly. We have few birds of note in our garden, but on Sunday there were a few gulls circling above the neighbour's house. They were diving and trying to intimidate a pair of crows who frequent our gardens. Try as I might, my little camera was not up to the job of capturing the image. I either got a blank sky or a blur. This was the only one I felt I could post.

At long last my Christmas cactus has flowered, it is much later this year, which I guess is due to the very cold spell we have been having. The colour is such a brilliant pink it looks almost artificial in these photos but I haven't enhanced them in any way.
